suppose the difference
As the planet warms, salinity levels increase, changing the density of sound channels used by aquatic life.
salt holds us
a performative object
we call to our side
the fragility of all species
the planet becomes
saltier and saltier
washed and bleached by salinity.
I am drawn to the fluctuation of salt in the global water cycle - salinity - an interesting natural barrier of protection for the environment, with various other qualities, such as its use by certain life forms to assist communication. Salt is needed for life, in terms of its chemical position in evolution but it also is a layer of damage able to corrode surfaces, including human-built structures.
salt as a performative, symbolic material.
